The pochote is known for the formidable spines covering its trunk, an adaptation that helps protect the tree. Here, those defenses become the composition: hard points, living green bark and one vulnerable-looking hollow at the center. Photographed from this close, the trunk begins to feel less like a tree and more like a strange landscape of its own.
